Practical habits for counters and stock rooms: grouping by segment, first-expiry-first-out, and keeping reorder lists current.
A well-organised stock room makes every order easier to check, every shelf easier to refill and every audit less stressful. These habits work for counters of any size.
Group products by segment and format
Keep tablets, liquids, topicals, drops and nutrition products in separate, labelled zones. Within each zone, arrange by brand name. This mirrors how most trade catalogues, including ours, are organised.
First expiry, first out
Place newer stock behind older stock so that the earliest expiry dates are dispensed first. A quick monthly check of expiry dates on slow-moving lines helps avoid returns.
Follow the storage conditions on the pack
Each pack states how it should be stored. Keep products away from direct sunlight and heat, and follow any specific temperature instructions printed on the label.
Keep a live reorder list
Note items as they run low rather than at the end of the week. Record the brand, pack size and quantity, which is exactly the information a distributor needs to process your order.
Check deliveries against the invoice
Match brand, pack, batch and quantity on arrival. Resolving differences on the day of delivery is far simpler than later.
